Schaumburg needs an x-ray

November 25th, 2008  |  by Brian Costin Published in Blog, Transparency

What if your doctor were to operate on you without an x-ray or its equivalent? According to the Illinois Policy Institute, that’s exactly what’s happening with state & local government spending right now.

The Institute published a new research paper in October that outlines what state lawmakers can do to make their spending decisions transparent to the public. The first step would to pass the Illinois Accountability Portal act, which would create a website with a database listing of all expenditures, contracts and state employee salaries.

Other states have done this, so why not Illinois?
