Schaumburg & 8th District Residents Call Melissa Bean at 202-225-3711 to voice you opposition to the biggest tax increase in U.S. history.
The Schaumburg Freedom Coalition has teamed up with 14 other advocacy groups such as the Illinois Policy Institute, National Taxpayers Union, and the American Civil Rights Union and sent a letter out last week to ask Representative Mark Kirk and Representative Judy Biggert to sign a pledge to oppose the House Resolution (H.R.) 2454. H.R. 2454 proposed by Congressmen Waxman(D-CA) & Markey (D-MA) is called, the ”American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.”
Waxman-Markey would impose a cap-and-tax system in which businesses would have to purchase allowances from the government based on the amount of carbon dioxide they emit.
It would require businesses to use cleaner burning motor fuels, thereby raising their costs and increasing the price of goods and services to regular consumers.
Isn’t nuclear energy a clean fuel? Why isn’t this alternative energy source mentioned in Waxman-Markey?
The bill will create a large tax on energy, something that has traditionally been inexpensive in Illinois relative to other states because of our abundance of coal. According to the open letter, this new tax on energy promises to increase taxes for American & Schaumburg families by $3,100. In addition, the Heritage Foundation states that the bill will increase the average American family’s annual energy bill by $1,500 by the 2035.
This increased cost is unjust because less wealthy Americans allocate a much larger percent of their income towards energy costs than affluent American families—26% versus 4% on average, according to the open letter.
Recently, the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) released an 880-page book challenging the scientific basis of concerns that global warming is either man-made or would have harmful effects finding ”overwhelming scientific support for the position that the warming of the twentieth century was moderate and not unprecedented, that its impact on human health and wildlife was positive, and that carbon dioxide probably is not the driving factor behind climate change.”
So, why such a rush to “solve” a non-problem?
The Schaumburg Freedom Coalition calls on Representatives Mark Kirk and Judy Biggert along with Schaumburg’s Representatives Peter Roskam and Melissa Bean to oppose H.R. 2454 and prevent our already struggling economy from being strangled by the largest tax increase in U.S. and World history.
