Schaumburg’s high sales tax is starting to get national attention. Rony “The Tax Lady” Deutch has noted on her popular blog that Schaumburg’s has the highest sales tax in the nation with Schaumburg’s 12% Food & Beverage Tax.
Question #4: Is Schaumburg, IL Restaurant Sales Tax the Highest in the Nation at 12%?
Yes, the 12% sales tax levied on foods and beverages in Schaumburg, IL make it the highest sales tax rate in the nation. In addition to the state’s general sales tax the small tourist town also levies a 2% Village of Schaumburg Home Rule Food & Beverage Tax.
If Schaumburg having the highest sales taxes in the nation isn’t justification for a sales tax rollback campaign, I don’t know what would be.

I went out last night with some friends for dinner and drinks at a Schaumburg restaurant and I just couldn’t believe a 12% sales tax was correct. So I asked the waiter and he confirmed that was correct. I was outraged. I can’t believe the tax rate is even higher than Chicago. Next thing you know you will be taxed for breathing the air. Absolutely ridiculous!
