Schaumburg’s 2009 Tax & Fee Increases: January Edition
January 19th, 2009 | by Brian Costin Published in Blog, Taxes | 3 Comments
Did you know that Schaumburg has instituted 369 tax and fee increases over the past year? That’s more than one tax or fee increase for every day of the year!
2008-2009 Schaumburg Tax & Fee Changes
Village President Al Larson claimed in his year end report in the Schaumburg Cracker Barrel publication that…
The spending plan called for no new taxes being imposed or tax rate increases. Water and sewer rates did increase 10.75% effective April 1, primarily due to increases in the cost of water from Chicago.
Hmm…that’s strange. What about the other 368 tax and fee increases you conveniently forgot to mention Mayor Larson?
The Schaumburg Freedom Coalition calls for Al Larson to print a correction in the next Cracker Barrel publication and apologize for misleading the citizens of Schaumburg.
For the 31 days in January the SFC is going to bring to light 31 different tax and fee increases approved by the Schaumburg Village Board and Mayor Al Larson in 2008. By the end of the year we will highlight all 369 tax and fee increases. To check the amount of all 369 tax and fee increases click here.

Maybe the Village of Schaumburg wouldn’t have to implement these tax increases if they didn’t engage in their corporate welfare practices at the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center that will cost Schaumburg taxpayers $6.9 million in sales taxes and a nearly $6.6 million property tax break that makes all Schaumburg property owners taxes higher.
Come back in February when the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition will highlight 28 additional tax and fee increases passed by the Village Board in 2008.

These are fees which pay for inspecting property or enforcing codes. Who should pay for them it not those that benefit? If the cost of labor goes up why shouldn’t the fees? Would you prefer unsafe food, unsafe buildings or no liquor regulations enforced?
