Unanswered Questions From Rep. Crespo Mailer

Dear State Representative Crespo,
Recently, I received your 2009 Legislative Update Mailer printed at the taxpayers expense.
In big bold letters the mailer states, “A Balanced Budget with NO Tax Increase.” How can you make this statement considering neither part of the statement is true?
The recently-passed state budget borrows $3.5 billion to cover pension payments and postpones $3.2 billion in payments to state vendors until after June 30, 2010. Passing the buck to future generations isn’t at all what a normal person would consider a “balanced budget”. Assuming you actually read SB 1216 & SB 1292, when you voted in favor of them, how could you possibly pass this off to the citizens of Illinois’ 44th House District as being “balanced”?
Your fellow Democrat, Governor Quinn, signed into law a litany of tax increases in July. Even in voting against HB 255, it is wrong to claim the legislature achieved “A Balanced Budget with NO Tax Increase.” Especially when we are being forced to pay higher fees for drivers’ licenses and registrations, increased taxes on beer, wine, hard liquor, candy, soda pop, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant - among others.
These errors in your mailer are especially disconcerting considering your picture appears 5 times and your name appears 14 times. Was this a legislative update or a political campaign mailer to help your re-election efforts? How much taxpayer money was spent for this?
With this mailer being printed and distributed to 26,234 people in the 44th District alone, these incumbency protection mailers should be the first cut in any future state budgets.
I called your office with questions twice and have failed to receive any response in over 2 weeks. Also, I visited your office in Springfield and have received no response from you or your staff.
Rep. Crespo, don’t the people of the 44th district deserve answers to these questions?
