Red Light Cameras

The Schaumburg Freedom Coalition has been fighting against red light cameras in Schaumburg since August 2008, even before the cameras were put up. On July 14th, 2009 the cameras at Woodfield and Meacham Road were finally pulled down and all plans for additional cameras were cancelled.

Thanks to the people of Schaumburg and the supporters of the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition we have gone from a 5-0 vote of Schaumburg Village Trustees and Mayor Larson in favor of the cameras, to a 6-0 vote to take down the cameras and cancel the program.

The Village reported about 50 negative phone calls, letters, and e-mails during this period, and was sued three times. Some threatened to boycott Schaumburg as a place to shop, eat, and entertain.

It was the people of Schaumburg who caused the “most profitable $afety program in existence” to go belly up.

Thanks for all of your help! For those in other towns fighting red light cameras, we have compiled some of the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition’s work on the issue so others may be successful in removing this fake safety, government money making tool in their towns as well.
