Schaumburg Freedom Coalition in the News: Daily Herald and “Mornings with Ray Hanania”
February 26th, 2009 | by Brian Costin Published in Blog, Media Hits
There were two major press hits for the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition yesterday.
First, was a front page story in the Schaumburg edition of the Daily Herald about red light cameras.
Schaumburg to take down red light camera: Residents applaud decision, but don’t like plans for more. Here is some of the article:
“It’s one step forward, nine steps back, because they want to put in nine more cameras,” resident Brian Costin said.
He and fellow resident Robert Garrett handed out pamphlets opposing red light cameras to other members of the public in the village hall parking lot. Several cars sported windshield signs reading: “Red Light Camera – the most profitable safety program in existence.”
“I wouldn’t want to be a business owner near a red light camera because it might hurt my business,” Costin said.
He also claimed that statistical information showed that accidents paradoxically increase at intersections monitored by red light cameras.
Trustee Tom Dailly debated with Costin over whether it made any difference between an intersection being monitored by a police officer or a red light camera.
Costin said it was also an issue of civil liberties as police ticket the drivers of cars while red light cameras ticket only the owners of cars.
It was the most viewed and the most commented article on the Daily Herald.com site for 2/25/2009.
Secondly, I was a guest on Chicagoland WJJG 1530 AM Radio (www.RadioChicagoland.com) on “Mornings with Ray Hanania” about the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition. The spot starts approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast and lasts for about 20 minutes.
In the interview, I talk with Ray at lengths about the SFC organization, Transparency, Red Light Cameras, Village of Schaumburg Employee Salaries, the Casler Police Chief resignation/firing scandal, tips on setting up locally based community groups like the SFC, and helping the media cover local issues. It sounds as if I might be a guest on the show in the future. Perhaps those chances would be higher if a lot of people listen to the Podcast, the link is below.
