Tax Rollback e-Petition

On April 7, 2009, an astounding 91% of Schaumburg citizens voted to reduce the sales taxes locally by 1% on an advisory referendum. Only 7 days later, on April 14, 2009, Schaumburg’s Village Trustees and Mayor Al Larson voted unanimously to raise property taxes by the largest amount in Village history, $120 million! So much for respecting the will of the people and listening to our concerns about high taxes.

  • Schaumburg’s 10% Retail Sales Tax is second only to the City of Chicago nationally.
  • Schaumburg’s 12% Bar & Restaurant Tax is the highest of its kind in the history of the United States.
  • Schaumburg’s sales taxes are way too expensive and hurting our local economy causing consumers, businesses, and jobs to relocate elsewhere.
  • Schaumburg’s sales taxes must be reduced before our local economy is irreparably damaged.

By signing the petition, you are helping the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition reduce Schaumburg’s Bar & Restaurant Sales Tax from 12% to 9% and the General Retail Sales Tax from 10% to 9%. By reducing these local home rule sales taxes, Schaumburg taxpayers will save over $30 million every year.

The petition can be signed by anyone, not just residents of Schaumburg. The petition will be submitted to Mayor Al Larson & the Village Board.
