More Wasteful Spending by Village With $750K Turret House Rehab

Schaumburg's Turret House

A recent report from the Daily Herald revealed the cash starved Village of Schaumburg that passed a monumental new municipal property tax has found $750K in cash for “historical preservation”.

Schaumburg trustees have approved a $749,000 renovation of the historic Turret House recently acquired through a land swap with the expanding Lou Malnati’s restaurant next door.

The two biggest winners in this project are Lou Malnati’s (Mark Malnati) and Lamp Inc. Both just happen to be big campaign donors to Mayor Larson.

The village will pay…$710,000 to Lamp, Inc. of Elgin for the actual physical work, Fritz said.

Historical Preservation is best left to private charity. Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay higher taxes because a few politicians want to force us to pay for something they deem “historical” but aren’t willing to pay for it out of their own pockets. It’s always easier to spend other people’s money.

Perhaps the reason why the Village Board and Mayor Larson are so reckless with the money is that they have never had a problem aqcuiring more money once existing sources runs out. The Village of Schaumburg has raised taxes 14 times in the last 10 years including expanding this Olde Schaumburg Centre TIF district 5 times from a $7 Million TIF district to a $49 Million TIF district. Never once has the Village asked the citizens for their opinion on the tax hikes via referendum.

This TIF district should have been shut down a long time ago as it has proven to be nothing more than the Village Board and Mayor Larson’s play money slush fund to reward campaign donors.

This is so stupid. That section of town looks like a Rockford slum.

    Tear it down.
