Schaumburg Can’t Trust Trustees On Property Taxes

On April 29th, 2004, the now defunct Schaumburg Review interviewed Village of Schaumburg Trustees on their property taxes views. All of the trustees interviewed, including 4 trustees still serving, stated their firm opposition to a municipal property tax.
Trustee Marge Connelly- “I don’t think…a property tax is necessary or required.”
Trustee Hank Curcio- ”I feel very comfortable that we’ll be able to do it without a property tax. The convention center and hotel, that’s going to go a long way toward keeping us from a property tax.”
Trustee Tom Dailly- ”I see no reason to implement a property tax.”
Trustee George Dunham- ”No. (in response to the question about implementing a property tax) I don’t think that we’re going to be raising any more taxes”
Trustee Jack Sullivan- “I do not support a property tax at all.”
They have all turned their backs on Schaumburg Taxpayers and flip-flopped on property taxes.
Over the last week many Schaumburg citizens got an unexpected guest in the mail in form of much higher property taxes.
One resident of Schaumburg reported to me that her assessed value went down 4% but her property taxes went up 65%. A Schaumburg Triblocal article stated that some residents have experienced a 100% increase in property taxes this year.
Unfortunately for the taxpayers, all 5 of the Trustees who said no to property taxes in 2004, have now voted in favor of the largest property tax increase in the history of Schaumburg. Newer Trustee Mark Madej also voted for the property tax hike.
The municipal property tax isn’t the only time these same trustees have broken their promise on property taxes, in April of 2009 the Village of Schaumburg passed a new Tax Increment Financing district called the STAR line TIF, that will cost local taxpayers $120 million over the next 23 years, including $95 million in corporate welfare subsidies.
Perhaps most disturbing was that Village Trustees approved the $120 million property tax hike just 7 days after 91% of Schaumburg voters said they wanted a lighter tax burden with a advisory-only sales tax rollback referendum. So much for listening to the citizens.
Let us hope Schaumburg voters will remember the broken promises by the current set of Village Trustees in 2011. You can be sure that the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition will be reminding voters between now and then.
While Trustee Daily has now retired, Trustees George Dunham, Hank Curcio, and Mark Madej will be up for re-election in 2011. Jack Sullivan and Marge Connelly are up for re-election, along with new Trustee Frank Kozak, in 2013.

We live right on the border of Hanover Park / Schaumburg and our property taxes went up by over $1,000 this year from last year.
Now, with my job being outsourced to India and my husband having to still work at 66 years of age, we are not happy campers.
Our property / housing value did not go up, 1 out of 6 people are foreclosing.
I really want to find out the names of every single person that voted for this property tax raise and campaign to make sure these folks are not re-elected.
“United we stand, divided we fall”. We need to rally against this injustice.

Please let me know how I can get involved in promoting reasonable candidates and put these out of touch people, out of a job!

I bought house in March’2008. My previous owner was paying $4800/-, when property value was 40% higher than current price. I paid $5200/- in 2009. This year I endup paying $6900/-. I couldn’t understand this math which official tried to explain me that you are new owner, therefore your homwowner exemption is less than previous owner. If that the case; yera after year exemption should go up but not here.
If property value go down, assesment is going down as well. Although these public repesentative are using higher multiplication factor to increase tax and snatching money from residents.
this is outragious and they should go to federal government to get more money for school funding or other expense rather than pilling innocent taxpayer residance.
I hope they should understand public centiment.

I am so furious with these people who for some God knows what reason think that raising our taxes is what need’s to be done at this time. We bought our house in schaumburg in 2006 and the property taxes were about $3300. and now our taxes are over $6000. What exactly are they trying to do to us, take away the last shread of hope we have to make it through these bad times….they are a bunch of idiots who have no clue what people are going through and do not care.
They do need to lose their jobs and not have any income in their households and maybe that would wake them up to reality……
