About
The Schaumburg Freedom Coalition is a nonpartisan, nonprofit citizen organization founded in 2008 to work for lower taxes, personal and economic freedom, transparency, and smaller government for the people of Schaumburg.
Brian Costin, as president and founder of the Schaumburg Freedom Coalition, won the 2010 Sam Adams Government Watchdog Award for advancing transparency and exposing waste in the village of Schaumburg.
As a result of his work, the village shut down one of the country’s most lucrative red light cameras. Costin saved taxpayers $15 million after exposing a fraudulent tax-break scam and, moreover, built a government transparency website when the village rejected his transparency measures. His work has been featured on the local Fox and ABC affiliates, Chicago Tonight, as well as in the Daily Herald and Chicago Tribune.Costin is also the Director of Outreach at the Illinois Policy Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit nonpartisan research organization dedicated to supporting free market principles and liberty-based public policy initiatives for a better Illinois. As a leading voice for economic liberty and government accountability, the Illinois Policy Institute engages policy makers, opinion leaders, and citizens on the state and local level. At the Institute Costin heads up the Liberty Leaders program.
Previously, Costin worked as Assistant Director of Government Relations at the Heartland Institute a 501(c)3 nonprofit nonpartisan research organization. Heartland’s mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems.
